MEET

Emily Layne

I'm a wife, mom of 3, and artist from Indianapolis. My husband and I are dedicated to raising kind, thoughtful, loving, joyful children with big hearts. We believe in acceptance and inclusion. We believe in following your heart, learning from and connecting with people from all walks of life, and living life in alignment + speaking your truth.

As a mom of 3 born within 3.5 years, working full time as a photographer, and navigating pandemic life, I'm on a path to healing from PPD, something I've struggled with for almost 5 years. Not long ago, I had the ah-ha moment when I felt the universe bringing my attention to healing through my career, my most loved form of art, the thing I worked so hard for every day. So the family brand of Ivan & Louise was born. Seeing my own family and all the families I'm given the gift of photographing, through my camera and the images I create, has been the most enlightening experience. I have a desire to document my children’s life in the most richly authentic way I can and do the same for you and your family life, as we really are living the moments we'll always want to remember.

For some of the not-really-fun-stuff, just in case you'd like to know:
I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and Child Development. I taught at a Reggio-Emilia based school before running Ivan & Louise full time starting in 2015, but my love of all things child development, building strong family connections, and the natural sense of wonder + curiosity of childhood has never left. I love incorporating that into my way of connecting with your children.

welcome

“Life is amazing. And then it’s awful. And then it’s amazing again. And in between the amazing and awful it’s ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That’s just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it’s breathtakingly beautiful.”

Two photographers on your wedding day means we provide a sense of security and creativity we wouldn't be able to provide if we weren't together. We can be in two places at once if needed, we capture two different angles throughout day, one of us can help with posing while the other is shooting, and working together gives us the opportunity for one of us to get the classic photographs while the other is getting more photos of the more spontaneous moments through different angles. This allows us to provide our couples with a wide variety of images that truly tell the story of their day.

There are two of us

Because we photograph every wedding together, we are able to provide our couples with a strong, consistent style. While we have our own areas of expertise and our own styles of creativity, we have become confident in our individual roles and that means a consistent shooting style for you to benefit from! We are always striving to become better and love having the support and encouragement from each other to do so as we work together to build your first heirlooms as a married couple.

Consistency

We are both main photographers on your wedding day, as opposed to one main shooter and one second shooter. We can depend on each other for certain images or angles throughout the day, we know what each other needs with just a quick glance, and it provides more stability for you. We never have to worry about securing a second shooter or who that person may be. We know every time. It's the two of us at every wedding. You can trust and depend on us more because we are married and in the business together.

Kind Words from Clients

We absolutely loved having Emily come to our house for a family session. She was such a nurturing and calming presence that my 6 year old immediately took her by the hand to give her a tour of the house—and probably would have spent the whole hour that way if she could have! We took pictures in our own space, doing things we actually love doing, and I feel so confident that having these pictures will be a treasure for years to come. I love that the pictures are more than just a picture for our Christmas card, but that it’s also the toddler asking for snacks in his learning tower (like he always does!) and the kids jumping on the couch (like they always do!) It feels like such a gift to have this phase of life documented so that one day when there aren’t little kids leaving little crumbs, we can look at the pictures and be transported right back. My kids are already asking when Emily can come back to do it again and I agree!!!

Oh, Emily. These photographs are more than we could have ever dreamed of. The way you captured our personalities and love for one another is something we'll cherish for a lifetime. Thank you, thank you. We cannot wait to have you photograph our family again in the future. Thank you for the special time together and beautiful memories.

The environment and vibe Emily brings to a session is so different than what we've experienced during sessions before. Her heart and passion shine through the entire time and are obvious in every photo we received, as well. We couldn't believe how evident it was that she really loves her job. She made us feel so comfortable and we love that we have photos in our home, doing what we love together. We didn't have to worry about a thing - Emily engaged the kids, too! Hands-down the best photographer in Indy!

It truly was such a JOY to work with Emily! We felt so at home in her presence and she made being the one in front of the camera such a natural and refreshing experience. She got the kids involved in the process and they had so much fun! The pictures we received are images I will cherish for the rest of my life. I will look back on them with fondness over these sweet days that she documented for us.
